The relationship between President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is so fractured the pair haven’t spoken in weeks, a new report said Tuesday.
And McConnell has privately said he doesn’t know if Trump can even salvage his presidency, The New York Times reported.
The feud has only deepened since the Senate was unable to repeal Obamacare, and the president’s incendiary comments after the unrest in Charlottesville only made things worse, the paper reported.
The rift, marked by Trump’s repeated attacks on the majority leader on Twitter and an angry phone call between the two that deteriorated into cursing, comes at a time when the GOP needs to hold together to advance its agenda.
Congress is seeking tax reform, a spending deal and to raise the debt limit when they reconvene next month.
